In the District of Columbia, the mini-FTC act is D.C. Code § 28-3901. Under this legislation, the Department of Consumer Affairs has a cause of action against any person who uses a variety of false, misleading, or deceptive practices in the conduct of any trade or business. If found guilty of a violation, a person is liable for: treble damages or $1,500 per violation, whichever is greater, payable to the consumer; equitable penalties; punitive damages; and any other relief which the court deems proper.
