In Alaska, the mini-FTC act is ALASKA STAT. § 45-50-471 to 561. Under this legislation, plaintiffs have a cause of action when an individual conducting trade or commerce engage in: false, misleading, or deceptive acts of practices; misleading or false advertising; or conducts a variety of more specific acts. To sustain an action, a plaintiff must show monetary damages due to the action(s) of the defendant. There is a statute of limitations of one year after the person discovers or reasonably should have discovered the loss resulted from an unlawful act. A successful plaintiff is entitled to damages. They can recover three-times the actual damages of $500, whichever is greater. An injunction is also an available remedy.
